You have to know that he did not denounce the ideal of socialism as a whole but he actually rejected the Soviet Stalinist model and Marxist view of narrow class war historical view point. He is now very close to what we know as so called "Social Democracy=Democratic Socialism." The unique indication is that the social democracy is a kind of socialism in one country. In fact, we still do not materialise interconnected and unified world socialist union holistically. Stalinism and Social Democracy are still isolated concepts of the 20th.century. As a developmentalist, Mikhail Gorbachev suggests us that to picture modern-day society in terms of the trivial schematic image of a conflict between two classes has actually not been possible for a long time now. It is necessary to search for a way of solving the problems of further development outside of this schematic framework.
